i hope the trip is mellow and soulful and good, ma. and glad scott's still got a hot iron in the fire. and glad i AM, all things considered.

just lying in roan's bed after "fox in sox" (that book is mercilessly fun), and he looks at me, eyes wide and clear, and asks, "do you know what i god, dad?"

"god?" i reply. "you mean 'glad of,' or 'grateful for'?"

"no! god is a word!" he rejoins, eyes somehow wider. "do you know what i god?"

"tell me," i say.

"you and mom," he says, and looks at me like pure being itself.

…my god i'm a lucky man.

a fond farewell to a friend

our friend jose was riding his bike when a van hit him. he died today. our thoughts and prayers and energies go out to his wife chanel, his children, his friends and his family. he was a lovely soul, and we only got to know him a little. safe passage, amigo.
